Ballroom Dancing refers collectively to a set of partner dances, which originated in the Western world and are now enjoyed both socially and competitively around the globe. Ballroom Dancing has a unique history which can be contributed to its popularity today, both recreationally and competitively. This form of dancing began in England during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, primarily among the “upper class” who regularly participated in private balls. Ballroom Dancing can be broken down into four main dances:
- The Waltz
During the late 19th century and early 20th century, Ballroom Dancing then became popular amongst the “middle / working class” where they would attend dances at public halls. However, it was during the 1920’s that Ballroom Dancing really started to boom, with competitions being held worldwide.
