The Salsa is a partner dance which is performed to Salsa music. The word Salsa in Spanish and means sauce, or in this case a flavour or style.

Salsa dancing is done on eight-beat music with the dancers moving on three beats, pausing for one beat, dancing for three beats, and pausing for one beat. The movement is typically left-right-left-pause then right-left-right-pause. On the pause some sort of flourish is usually added, for example; the stomp of a foot, movement of the hand or the kick of the leg.

This is mostly a stationary dance, with little movement across the dance floor. Salsa dancers rely on the passionate movements of their legs and upper bodies to convey the dance.

Salsa dancing is incredibly popular throughout Latin America and the United States and is continually increasing in popularity in Australia .
